In this commercial the UK's top long distance runner Sir Mo Farah needed to burst through a solid brick wall. I did everything in Houdini keeping all aspects procedural (including shading) so anything such as brick size, hole shape etc. could be altered with ease. I shattered the various layers of plaster, brick and cement with booleans and added additional layers of particles and volumetrics to fill things out. For the insulation in the cavity between the two layers of brick I used a displaced vbd to achieve a convincing foam/fibrous material. I rendered with HtoA and using Deep so Mo could easily be comped into the middle of the destruction.
